Tracts - the good, the bad, the ugly

Postby Shawn Cuthill » Tue Feb 08, 2005 1:19 pm

Some of you are in the habit of handing out gospel tracts. Some of you aren't. I'm guessing that those of you that don't are scared to give out the old-school "repent-ye-and-believeth-hitherto-cometh-judgement" type tracts.

If so, I wanted to introduce you to the best tracts in the world:

Anyone else have tracts that they like to use? If you don't hand out tracts, why not?

Those tracts are OK. There will never be one, perfect catch-all tract, sadly.

Actually, in my opinion, This Was Your Life is still probably the best tract made to date, despite some spectacularly cheesy artwork, but Jack T. Chick is a sick, demented, paranoid man, and as long as the darn things identify themselves with him, they are not fit to be distributed.

My thoughts about Chick tracts are this: Take the good leave the bad.

I agree with your thoughts that This Was Your Life is the best tract that Jack Chick has produced. Some are not quite so good and some are down right offensive (hey we are to love everybody, right?).

My chapel had been going door to door in the neighborhood and somebody had put Chick's The Sky Lighter in some of the seed sower packets and needless to say, we got a few angry phone calls.

The bottom line is that we need to use discernment about what we are passing out.

I think we also need to remember in these ultra-sensitive P.C. days that Jesus was offensive to a lot of people, not just Jews. I think it's ok to offend as long as you love.
I personally would rather talk to someone face to face instead of hand out chick tracts as halloween favors and think I've done my work for the kingdom.
