Day 5 -Rain, checkpoints, Biblical gardens
Rain, Rain DONT go away!

drove past israeli checkpoints while Reuben explained the complicated "3Dimensional" aspects of the Israeli/Palestinean conflict. Saw Reuben's house little rain in israel.
- cistern - rebekkah taking hours to water camels, jacob & rachel, jesus said "i am the living water" just at the beginning of the rainy season when the people would have been looking for new rain waters to fill their cisterns
- winepress - two kinds of olives, black are not ripe, green are ripe, olive oil used for light
- threshing floor - wheat
- almond branch - jeremiah - sukkad, quick to bloom (God's word will be quick to come true in Jeremiah's time
- hockey stick
- sycamore trees - tree of regenaration, you can cut it to the ground and it will grow back
- tent of goat hair that abraham would have lived in
- scrolls, reading with tunes and accents in the scroll, read through the bible once a year (Gen to Deut)
- blessings of bread and wine "blessed are you God of the universe who brings forth bread from the earth/fruit of the vine"

West bank explanation:
- 70 kms as the crow flies
- width of israel to the westbank - 10 miles - 16 km that's it
- lebannon north, syria north, Jordan east, egypt south, med. sea west
- not long or wide, but DEEP! you're always digging up the past
- golan heights in the north - conquered in 1967 - nothing to do with west bank - lots of druiz (samir)
- west bank - euphemism - up till 67 was held by jordan.
- gaza strip - up till 67 was held by egypt
- 67 was 6 day war and israel took over those areas
- british mandate palestine - won from turks in WW1 - france too
- half of land that was biblical israel was given to jordan.
- palestinians are same as jordnians, they could have set up palestinian state then
- UN comes up with partition plan - divided into 6 areas
- israel accepted, arabs rejected - war broke out jews won more than their area

detailed west bank map:
- areas A, B, & C
- A = total palestinian control - 5% of land mass
- B = 95% of p
- c = Israeli control 1/3 of land mass - 5% of palestinean pop
- 95% of palestinians have no claim that the jews are buggin them too much, cause 95% are under their own rule.
- west bank breakdown, fence has helped cut down on suicide bombers major

Mount Carmel
- walk up cause road is closed, dwight reads from Kings
- see kishon, mount tabor, valley where prophets were slaughtered
- see airstrip, fighter jets

Megiddo
- moshava - community settlement based on farming, each has their own farm behind the house vs kibbutz - all in one area, totally communal
up near gilead
- jewish settlements have water tower and like to build on top
- arabs build on the side of the hill - you'll see the minarets from the mosque
- tour of visitor center
- up on har meggido, seeing fighter jets going overhead
- prayer meeting up on top, john preaching, cut off cause they're closin down
"john has now been kicked out of 2 sites for preaching too long"
- tonight we can go to the "jerusalem diamond mines", but i'm sitting it out to get slep

actually what happened is that greg, mark, doug & I went out walking down the main street. not much to see, got online at the sheraton
- we checked in to our hotel, the "gai beach", we were told that it used to be called the "gay" beach but they changed their name after getting a high volume of certain clientelle (or so reuben says :)
-
"They offered you a choice
between the death of your principles
and the death of your body" - V

I know that feeling... even wrote a winning article on it.

- hockey stick

Huh? :P

- scrolls, reading with tunes and accents in the scroll, read through the bible once a year (Gen to Deut)

Part of the Messianic synagogue is the reading of Gen thru Deut each year. And when you're done, you celebrate SIMCHAT TORAH! (Joy in the law - I got to participate in that this year - we walked around the block carrying our banners and singing, simply awesome)

- blessings of bread and wine "blessed are you God of the universe who brings forth bread from the earth/fruit of the vine"

I can quote those blessings by heart in Hebrew... I love the beauty of the Hebrew language.

Mount Carmel
- walk up cause road is closed, dwight reads from Kings
- see kishon, mount tabor, valley where prophets were slaughtered
- see airstrip, fighter jets

One of my absolute favourites of Israel - I loved Mount Carmel. I took it all in like I was breathing.

And you still haven't talked about the food! :P
