HTML help

Postby Shawn Cuthill » Sat Apr 16, 2005 9:58 am

Just looking for a little help with HTML if anyone out there has experience.
On the main blog page - http://www.shawncuthill.com - you'll see on the left side the link for the "DISCUSSION FORUM".

The code that my wonderful friend Paul Roides put for that is:

<p><div class="date">< b><a href="http://bbc.quist.ca/bb">DISCUSSION FORUM<br>
CLICK<br> HERE</a></b></div>

Now I would like to modify this so it sticks out a little more.

1. What is <p>?
2. What is <div class>
3. Why does <div class-"date">
4. I know that < b> is for bold, but what other options do I have for colour?
5. Any other tips?

Thanks :)

A bit of help...

Postby Phil Tremblay » Sun Apr 17, 2005 3:38 pm

Yo!

I only have a few answers:

The <p> tag stands for 'new paragraph'

You have tons of options for colours. You can even do different colours for each letter if you feel like taking the time to do it.

This link to webmonkey.com has a colour chart for all the codes you need to put colours in => http://webmonkey.wired.com/webmonkey/reference/color_codes
Use this tag => <font color="#??????"> You can either end the colour with a </font> tag, or just introduce a new color.

Here's a link to a 'Cheatsheet' of basic tags that should help => http://webmonkey.wired.com/webmonkey/reference/html_cheatsheet

OK, bear with me here this question may seem pretty stupid. I've noticed that some links on people's sites open in seperate windows, and some open within the containing window?

Is there different code for each? If so what is the code for seperate window and what is the code for containing window?

Thanks

<a href="link goes here" target="_blank">the link</a>

the target tag opens a new window when specifying "_blanK"
